Getting to know each other

A) Ask each other questions like: 

“Where do you live?” “Do you have pets?” “At what time…”  

Subjects that may inspire:  

Age, birthplace, birthday, family, residence, hobbies, work, ambitions, holidays, education, pets, future plans. 

B) After listening to his or her answers, could you give a summary about your classmate? What can you tell about him or her? 

C) Interrogative pronouns: 
What - to ask about things - what do you do? 
Who - to ask about people- who is coming? 
Which - to ask about things (mainly) - which one do you like? 
Whose - to ask about possession - whose car is this? 
Where - to ask about places - where do you live? 
When - to ask about time - when is school starting again? 
Why - to ask about reason - why did you do it? 
How - to ask about manner - how did you do it? 

2) Talking about a book, film or series

Een gesprek over een boek, film of serie die je gevolgd hebt. Stel elkaar onderstaande vragen en geef elkaar gedetailleerde, beschrijvende antwoorden: 

1. Welke film, serie of boek kies jij om te bespreken en waarom? 
2. Geef een beschrijving van de hoofdrolspelers en denk aan karakters, uiterlijk, positieve en negatieve kenmerken, sterke en zwakke eigenschappen. Welk belang hebben de karakters voor het verhaal, zouden verhaallijnen anders zijn gelopen met andere karakters? 
3. Geef een beschrijving van het verhaal. Zijn er meerdere verhaallijnen te vinden? Kruisen en/of ondersteunen de verhaallijnen elkaar? Hoe? 
4. Welke reviews over het boek, de film of serie kun je vinden op het internet. Zijn deze positief of negatief? Waarom? 
5. Wie is de auteur of producent van het boek, de film of serie. 
6. Tot welk genre behoort het boek, de film of serie? Denk aan waargebeurd, fantasie, misdaad, triller, sciencefiction, romance, horror, detective, komedie, etc. 
7. In welk jaar is de film, serie het boek geproduceerd/geschreven.
8. Waarom zou jij de film, serie of boek wel of niet aanraden? 
9. Wat heeft het boek, de serie of film voor jou persoonlijk betekent. Wat heb je ervan geleerd? Welke conclusie(s) kun je trekken?

4) Listening & having a conversation

Bespreek met een klasgenoot naar welke muziek je graag luistert. Zoek de muziek op om deze te laten horen, gebruik hiervoor oortjes.

Answer the following questions: 

1. What is the music about? 

2. What attracts you to this music? 

3. What do you know about the artist? 
4. Has your taste for certain music changed over the years?
5. At what times do you prefer to listen to music? 
6. What does music mean to you? 

Some songs have historical value because they tell stories about true events. To what events are these songs forever linked?

5) Speaking 

Spreekvaardigheid 

Maak een vlog van minimaal 5 en maximaal 7 minuten over jouw opleiding en stage- of werkplek. Zorg dat je een introductie, een middenstuk en een afsluiting hebt. Je kunt een script schrijven en oefenen, voordat je de camera pakt en filmt. 

Vertel in het Engels over je dagelijkse routine. Je kunt denken aan de volgende onderwerpen:
1. Hoe laat sta je op. 
2. Op welke manier ga je naar jouw school of stage- / werkplek toe. Pak je de fiets, rijd je met de auto of pak je het openbaar vervoer.
3. Hoe laat kom je weer thuis.

4. Hoe ziet jouw huiswerk eruit, aan welke opdrachten werk je.
5. Welke taken voer je uit op school en/of op jouw stage- / werkplek.
6. Leg uit hoe bepaalde zaken werken op school en op jouw stage- of werkplek.
7. Wat heb je geleerd, wat kan je al en wat ga je nog leren? 
8. Wat viel mee aan de opleiding en wat viel tegen? 
9. Heb je leerdoelen opgesteld?
10. Zorg voor een afsluiting (denk aan de conclusie, een evaluatie of juist een vraag). 

Spreek met de docent af hoe je het vlog inlevert.

7) Pronunciation

Uitspraak

Woorden die beginnen met een P, T of een K krijgen in het Engels een pufje lucht mee, als: 
1. de klemtoon op de letter ligt
2. als de letters gevolgd worden door een klinker

Deze woorden worden PTK-woorden of "pufwoorden" genoemd. De klinkers tussen de haakjes krijgen het pufje lucht: 

P - pin → uitspraak = p(i)n
T - tent → uitspraak = t(e)nt
K - cat → uitspraak = c(a)t 

Voorbeeldzinnen: 
1) P(e)te p(e)tted the c(a)t. 
Pete aaide de kat. 
Zowel Pete, petted en cat krijgen een pufje lucht. 
2) We drank t(ea) together in a t(e)nt. 
We dronken samen thee in een tent. 
Zowel tea en tent krijgen een pufje lucht mee, maar together niet, omdat in het woord together de klemtoon op de 'ge' ligt en niet op de 'to'. 
3) T(a)ke these p(a)rcels to the p(o)st office, please.
Neem deze pakjes mee naar het postkantoor, alsjeblieft. 
Zowel take, parcels en postoffice krijgen pufjes lucht mee, maar please niet, omdat deze 'p' gevolgd wordt door een medeklinker in plaats van een klinker. 
4) T(e)d c(a)rried twenty tomatoes to the van. 
Ted droeg twintig tomaten naar de vrachtwagen. 
Zowel Ted en carried krijgen een pufje lucht, maar twenty en tomatoes niet, want de 't' van twenty wordt gevolgd door een medeklinker en bij tomatoes ligt de klemtoon op de 'ma' en niet op de 'to'.
